In the current state of our nation, I’ve been hearing the word “propaganda” thrown around loosely and frequently. I admit that I am also a victim of loosely using the term to describe any biased advertising that comes across my screen. I have succumbed to the recent TikTok trend of people posting “Propaganda I’m Not Falling For” in response to trends, fads, styles, and ideals that our generation has made popular. I am SO happy we are starting to have this conversation of de-influencing ourselves from the spiraling and unrealistic internet fads. The trend of not following trends might just be what the country needs as the desperate search for individualism continues.
And of course, I will be adding my two cents.
Propaganda I’m not falling for:
Cute/ aesthetic pajamas
Accepting the phrase “I miss you” without any action
Only going to restaurants for their aesthetic
Excusing lack of responsibility as “self-care”
“I’m just a girl” rhetoric as an excuse for anything (not funny)
Labubu’s are literally terrifying and you guys all know it
All tops made for girls being cropped!
Expensive staple pieces/ blanks
The entire skincare industry
Overpriced vintage stores that only sell Y2K clothing
Sharing your location with friends
Coffee/Matcha being your personality trait
Being “mysterious” / nonchalant
Corporate core/office siren at the club
Consulting Pinterest as your only source of inspiration for everything
Chat GBT/ AI overview
i absolutely hate this: "Overpriced vintage stores that only sell Y2K clothing"
SO TRASH!!!
