A couple of months ago I had my eyes on a pair of pony hair fisherman sandals from Marni that I lost out on. Since the grail of my life slipped through my finger and out of my cart I’ve noticed the fisherman style creeping into my ads and making a little name for itself. As a constant advocator, obsessor, and number one fan of the “ugly shoe”, this one caught me by surprise with how well it’s being consumed by the girls. In the age of Birkenstocks, I was looking for a spring sandal that I could wear with socks. Preferably leather and very ugly were at the top of my list of important aspects, so when I saw one of my coworkers wearing black leather fisherman sandals with jeans (no socks) I knew I found a close enough second to my first loves. She told me where they were from and indeed there they were on the Madewell website. I was shocked to see that this style was breaking through the light of Teva and Birkenstock silhouettes as a classier alternative. More excited than shocked because things are getting ugly and I love it (more options for me yay)! Although I was reminded of the jelly sandal era of 2014, it’s only natural that the trend has grown with us at least updating in style and aesthetic. I’m actually looking to contrast these in the winter with colorful socks (of course) and I’m seeing it with an oversized sweater and maxi skirt. Although I am nervous about how these would look if styled by the wrong hands, I must appreciate the desire to get funky with footwear. Don’t be like me and ponder too long, get your fisherman sandals NOW!
